Led by the International Student Taskforce 2021-22, this Insights into the Field  addresses ways in which to foster support and community for international students.

This e-learning short course is intended to serve as a best practices guide for US higher education institutions advising and engaging with international students so that these students may seamlessly integrate into the multiple communities to which they belong on campus.

Through this course, you will:

  • Discuss campus programming to build a community for international students
  • Reflect on the concept of campus internationalization and how to best engage international students
  • Provide ways to move outside of your office and leverage the resources available in your community

Session Description:

Insights into the Field are facilitated by members of the Diversity Abroad community who are passionate about the field of diversity, inclusion, and global education. This video includes a resource sheet of links and further information to support advisors on inclusive practices for students with disabilities.

The session will help you feel familiar with disability rights and laws, be familiar with common accommodations and best practices to use when presenting,  have a better understanding surrounding inclusive advising practices as we look at specific scenarios through a panel discussion. We will touch on various elements to keep in mind when advising. And finally leave with some resources and a concrete call to action to continue working towards inclusive excellence.
