Session Description:

Are you interested in increasing the number of male students participating in your study abroad programs? This e-learning short course will present strategies and interventions to better engage cisgender men in study abroad. 

Through this course, you will:

  • Learn about the broader patterns of male engagement in US higher education, as well as data on male participation in education abroad, nationally
  • Better understand the disinterest amongst men in diversity and cultural learning
  • Gain practical tips, strategies, and suggestions for creating a climate “buzz” on campus to increase male participation in education abroad
  • Learn about advertising and communication strategies on how to better relate to men and engage men in fraternities to participate in education abroad programming

Session Description:

Did you know that 50 percent of all US undergraduate students at 2-and 4-year institutions are first generation college students?

This e-learning short course offers information and perspective on how to use marketing to launch a successful outreach campaign to successfully attract more first-generation college students to study and intern abroad.

Through this course, you will:

  • Understand the tenets of diversity marketing as a subset of general marketing
  • Gain insight into the characteristics of first-generation college students
  • Learn how to employ diversity marketing to improve the participation rate of first-generation students in education abroad

    How can we employ diversity marketing to improve the likelihood of greater participation of African American and black college students in education abroad?

      Session Description:

      International students are an integral component of campus internationalization. In what ways can we support international students through inclusive excellence?

      This e-learning course identifies the needs of international students in US higher education and explores ways in which to educate and affirm them in their exploration of race, sexual identity, gender variance, and health/wellness.

      Through this course, you will:

      • Learn the role of international educators (listen, learn, partner, educate)
      • Be better equipped to address how to support international students navigating a balance of cultural preservation and cultural immersion
      • Learn how Care’s Women’s Empowerment and Critical Race Theory can inform the way we think about international student’s experiences

        Supporting Veterans in Education Abroad through Cross-Campus Collaboration

        Session Description: 

        A community discussion led by the University of Alabama on how to advise veteran students on options for applying VA funding towards an education abroad experience.
         
        University of Alabama developed a collaborative cross-departmental approach to address questions from students regarding the circumstances under which VA funding can be utilized for education abroad experiences. The result of these efforts is regular cross-communication between the campus Veterans Affairs Office and the Education Abroad Office to ensure that students know how funds can be utilized.
