Managing Up and Down to Advance Diversity & Inclusion in International Education

Presented at 2017 Diversity Abroad Conference

Leaders in the middle have responsibilities to people to whom they report and to people who report to them. These professionals must work across silos through potentially turbulent political waters with faculty, university staff in other offices, and international partners. These leaders must establish a vision, strategy, and measurable objectives that their own staffs will carry out, that faculty will contribute toward, and that upper administrators will support in rhetoric and resources. This session offers strategies to support professionals in these positions in fostering diversity and inclusion in education abroad.
