    Session Description:

Over the past decade the field of international education has increasingly acknowledged the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in global education and has made efforts towards creating equitable access to the benefits of education abroad, fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging for international students and diversifying the profession. As we look forward to the immediate and long-term changes to our sector, how do we ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are a critical component of our sector’s ‘new normal’? Session Description:

Diversity and Inclusion conversations both domestically and abroad are no longer a rarity. Students, particularly generation Z are looking for experiences that include understanding of identity, diversity, and inclusion. Even so, some of our working spaces may not be aware that these conversations are necessary. There may even be push back regarding the importance of discussing diversity, equity and inclusion in study abroad. This discussion will explore helpful ways faculty program leaders and education abroad coordination staff can create inclusive programming.

Intersecting Internationalism: Amplifying International Students’ Experiences through Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives

From Live Session on April 8, 2020

      Session Description:

Within the last decade, the work of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) departments have seen significant strides throughout universities across the United States. While some schools have robust programming, many aren’t considering the needs and voices of international students. This webinar will outline different initiatives by US institutions that include, or are geared towards, the diversity and inclusion of international students. The goal of international student D&I programing is to invite them into the conversation and provide a safe space to explore and adapt to their new surroundings. The panelists will also discuss other considerations when developing and implementing these initiatives.
