Exploring Barriers to Study Abroad in Asia

Exploring Barriers to Study Abroad in Asia

Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM EST (Closed captioning available)

Session Description:

Asia has much to offer a study abroad student, but remains a less commonly chosen destination. According to the most recent Open Doors data report, overall participation in this region has been slower to recover post-COVID than other study abroad destinations. Why don’t students choose to study abroad in Asia? What can colleges, universities, and study abroad providers do to encourage students to consider programs in this region? This session will explore some of the barriers students may encounter and brainstorm how study abroad professionals can address them.

  • Andy Quackenbush, Senior Study Abroad Advisor & Program Manager International Academic Programs | University of Wisconsin – Madison
  • Ana Garner, PhD, Academic Program Advisor & DEI Lead International Programs, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
