Over the past year, they focused on the topic of bridging the gap between US & European campuses as it relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion in an intercultural context, and will share insights into this topic with throughout the presentation. This presentation draws from their work developed and presented over the past 2 years in the following instances: in a Diversity Abroad Community Discussion in 2023: Orienting European On-Site Student Support Staff to the U.S. DEI Climate a poster session at Diversity Abroad’s Global Inclusion Conference last fall in Chicago on closing the gap between approaches to DEI for US-based staff and students and European onsite staff and faculty, and finally a deep-dive session at the Global Inclusion Summit in London in March of this year on DEI and Student Identity in Intercultural Context in which we outlined important moments for inclusion from pre-departure, to onsite, to reentry. The session will touch on DEI and these stages of the ed abroad experience, present a case study, offer a space for critical reflection, give an assessment of why DEI still matters in the current climate, and suggest an Action Plan.
